Illustrator Anne Geddes-Atwell

Honored repeatedly by the New York Press Association, writer Jim Atwell shares his shift from college dean to a sweatshirt-and-denims guy. These days he’s at home in Fly Creek—just three miles from Cooperstown's National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and now an American citizen, Anne Geddes came to the U.S. to complete a Masters of Arts degree majoring in painting and drawing at the University of Iowa, and a Masters of Fine Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati majoring in painting and art history. She moved to Maryland in 1968, taught at the University of Maryland and other colleges there, and held an appointment as Artist in Residence at St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland.

From 1985 until she moved to New York State, Geddes operated In Cahoots, Inc., a successful graphic arts and design business. She re-established her business in Fly Creek, New York, as Anne Geddes-Atwell, Graphics and Book Design.

Since 1997, she has been married to writer/lecturer Jim Atwell. Geddes-Atwell drew the fifty-one excellent illustrations that grace From Fly Creek, Celebrating Life in Leatherstocking County, They are soft-pencil drawings, which accounts for their subtle shading.

A number of the drawings have been reproduced as prints and may be viewed on this web site. The prints, produced with, and mounted on, archival-quality ink and paper, are available for purchase.
